White Mistletoe, is a species of mistletoe, belonging to the Sandalwood family, commonly known as gui or European Mistletoe. Native to Europe and western and southern Asia, it is a semi-parasitic shrub, growing on the stem-branches of other trees, (looking at it on the tree it looks like it has sprouted from the host tree). It has stems 30-100 cm long with a dichotomous branching. The leaves are oppositely paired long, leathery-textured, 2-8 cm long, 0.8-2.5 cm wide, and are yellowish-green in colour. This species is dioecious and the flowers are insect-pollinated, inconspicuous, yellow-green, 2-3 mm in diameter; the fruits are single-seeded, round, transparent-like, filled with a transparent sticky substance. It will be found literally planted on many kinds of trees, coniferous and broad-leaved, such as fir, pine, chestnut, oak, apple, etc. The plant acts as a hypotensive, stimulates the immune system, slows down the heartbeat and acts as an anticonvulsant, sedative, diuretic. It also acts as a neurotonic, painkiller, anti-inflammatory, anti-hemorrhagic, healing and anti-diarrheal agent.Externally it is used in arthritis, rheumatism, flesh veins. It is also recommended for washes in leukorrhea and gonorrhea.
