Cataract is a species of fern, in the family of Polypodyidae, commonly known as Scorpion Weed, Scorpion Grass, asclepius, scorpion grass, scorpion grass, scorpion weed, scorpion grass, scorpion grass, goldenrod, wild spinach. It is a herbaceous, perennial, water-loving plant that forms small tufts. It is characterised by a short rhizome that produces many green leaves. The stem is shorter than the body of the leaf. This species is found in Western and Central Europe, including the Mediterranean region. It is associated with fissures in carbonate rocks, and also grows in mortars of stone and brick. It prefers to grow on rocky walls, especially in alkaline. It can be found at altitudes up to 2700 m above sea level, although it prefers mountainous areas, where it usually grows on sunny rock walls. It acts as a sedative, diuretic, expectorant and diaphoretic. It is used against diseases of the bladder, urinary tract, prostate and kidneys. It is very good for the removal of kidney stones, generally acts against diarrhoea and is curative of spleen, stasis and cough.
