It is any one of 11 species of slow-growing perennial plants with fleshy roots, belonging to the genus Panax of the family Araliaceae. Ginseng is found only in the Northern Hemisphere, North America and East Asia (mainly Korea, northeastern China (Manchuria), Bhutan and eastern Siberia), usually in cooler climates. Its leaves are long-stalked. It reaches flowering after a few years (at least four) and the whole root is harvested after four years. Ginseng roots can reach 1 m long and 5-10 cm thick. The root has a human-like shape and the word "ginseng" also means "anthropomorphic root". It is one of the most important natural aids for stimulating the human body and our mental well-being. It is tonic, aphrodisiac, anti-stress.
