Veronica or Veronica, is a species of Veronica, native to Europe and Western Asia. (In Crete there is a species of Veronica, Veronica anagallis-aquatica L. We meet it under the name Veronica or Asproselino). It is a herbaceous plant with hairy green stems 10-50 cm long that cover the ground in layers and send up vertical shoots bearing pale purple flowers. The leaves are 1.5-5 cm long and 1-3 cm wide, and are softly hairy. It blooms from May to August. It is a vigorous weed if its seeds get into agricultural seed collections, such as clover. It has a slightly bitter and astringent taste. Most of the species of veronica are cultivated as ornamental plants, but there are also species that are eaten as salads. Many people use it as a substitute for tea. They use it as a tonic, stimulant, laxative and diuretic. Use the whole plant dried, in bronchitis, skin rashes, wounds, stomatitis, indigestion, epigastralgia, increases memory, reduces vertigo and has a calming effect, it has been shown to be very useful in the treatment of depression.
