Carob powder can be used as a healthy substitute for cocoa or chocolate. It is a natural sweetener, rich in calcium, phosphorus, potassium, carbohydrates, protein, magnesium, vitamins A, B and D and various minerals, and best of all, it is of higher nutritional value than chocolate and contains less than half the fat. For a chocolate drink, replace every 2 tablespoons of chocolate with 3 tablespoons of carob powder. For cocoa, substitute an equal amount of carob powder. It can also be used in sweets, cakes, baked goods, beverages and shakes like cocoa. As it is a natural sweetener, it requires very little added sugar. Alternatively, you can use carob syrup instead of sugar.
